UMAP Taiwan Scholarship is administered by the UMAP National Secretariat of Taiwan situated in the Center for International Academic Exchanges in National Taiwan University and is funded by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China.
Starting this year for 2006-2007 students intake, ten incoming students from other UMAP member countries / territories and ten outgoing students from Taiwan will receive the scholarships. The Ministry of Education and the UMAP National Secretariat in Taiwan will jointly select the winners.
Incoming UMAP students may wish to study this information;
The scholarship provides partial funding for recipients to study for a minimum of one semester in any UMAP member university in Taiwan.
Scholarship recipients receive a monthly stipend of NTD15, 000 and are exempt from paying host university tuition and student fees. Students intending to study shorter than one semester or to seek advanced degrees in Taiwan are not eligible to apply. The maximum support is for ten consecutive months or two semesters.
Number of Awardees; ten students from participating full UMAP-membership universities will be awarded the UMAP Taiwan Scholarship each year.
Academic Credits; Students will receive equivalent credits from their home universities for the courses they have completed in Taiwan. Such transfer of credits shall follow the guidelines of the UMAP Credit Transfer Scheme (UCTS) and satisfy other conditions specified by their home university.
Eligibility; Applicants must be:-
- citizens of any full-member UMAP country (Applications from
Cambodia, Mongolia, Ecuador, Macau and Vietnam are especially encouraged)
- full-time students enrolled at any UMAP university which has a partnership agreement with The host university in Taiwan
- nominated both by their home universities and by their National Secretariats accepted by a Participating UMAP University in Taiwan (an official admission letter is required)
Selection Criteria;
- Chinese language proficiency (Applicants should have completed at least one year of Chinese At their home university)
- A minimum GPA of 3.0
- No specific or designated majors are preferred. All academic disciplines are treated equally
Conditions;
- Students must take a minimum of 12 hours of classes per week, including Chinese language courses.
- Students are required to submit a 1,000- word written report in English to the UMAP National Secretariat in Taiwan 60 days after the completion of their exchange program. Such report shall illustrate academic and personal improvements as well as other progress made possible by the scholarship program.
- Students must return to their home universities after the exchange period. |
